Plan Christmas decorations and gifts as one celebration
Christmas planning can include more than presents. Decide what the household wants from the day, set a budget, and choose a few decorations and gifts that support it. A tree, flowers, cookies or a gift basket are options, not requirements for a successful celebration. The best plan leaves time and space for the people gathering.
Choose a simple visual theme
Pick a few colors or materials you already own and use them on a table or one shared area. If setting up a tree, leave walkways clear, check decorative lights and keep candles away from paper and branches. CPSC recommends using flameless candles when possible and keeping burning candles in view.

Plan flowers and food separately
A small vase of cut flowers can brighten a table if someone can care for it; use a clean vase and fresh water. Cookies or cake can be made or ordered according to the guests’ tastes, with ingredient details available for restrictions. Avoid placing perishable food in a decorative display for hours without a safe storage plan.

Match gifts to the people
A book, practical item, shared activity or compact basket can work when it fits the recipient. If a baby is expected, ask caregivers what is needed before buying infant supplies. Decide the container and delivery method only after selecting useful contents. If ordering online or sending to someone abroad, check the actual seller’s coverage, cost, timing and terms; archived retailer claims cannot establish current service.
