Plan a themed diaper-cake gift that can be safely taken apart
A diaper cake is a party presentation of supplies, not a product for a baby to use as assembled. A theme can come from color, a note, or a removable table display. Ask the caregiver which supplies they want before buying them.
Pick a theme from the family’s preferences
Choose a color, book, season, or shared hobby the caregivers actually like. A small card can explain the theme without assigning toys or colors by the baby’s sex. Confirm diaper size and brand preferences; keep packaged supplies available for the caregivers to inspect.
Build a table display, not nursery gear
If you arrange diapers for a shower, use a clean tray or box that sits on a table. Hold rolled diapers with removable paper bands or ribbon that the adult can take off before use. Keep any decorative flowers, figurines, pins, wire, glue, glitter, and loose parts separate from items intended for the baby. Do not place the assembled display in a crib or bassinet. CPSC’s safe-sleep guidance calls for a bare infant sleep space.

Make the handoff obvious
Give the caregivers a list of what is usable and what is decoration, and ask them to dismantle the display before any supply is used. If you include a toy, buy one appropriate for the child’s age and leave its original labeling intact; CPSC explains that small parts are a choking concern for children under three. A theme should never override the caregiver’s product choices.
